Veterinary Care and Animal Advocacy

Founded in 1985, PCRM is a nonprofit organization supported by physicians and laypersons working together for compassionate and effective medical practice, research, and health promotion.

PCRM promotes preventive medicine through innovative programs for federal nutrition policies, clinical research programs, PRCM's Cancer Research, and a public service announcement series featuring medical experts on prevention and health. PRCM also encourages higher standards for ethics and effectiveness in research by opposing unethical human research and promoting alternatives to animal research.

A cornerstone of HSVMA’s mission is advocating for the more humane treatment of animals. This advocacy may take the form of legislation, publication or litigation. The effort may be on a local, state or federal level. Our Leadership Council members -- all veterinarians -- are regularly involved in advocating for animals. The stories here will provide some idea of the wide range of their activities and commitment to advancing animal welfare.

When Farm Sanctuary started in 1986, it was a fledgling, all volunteer organization that was funded by sales of veggie hot dogs from a VW van. Today, Farm Sanctuary has grown to become the nation's leading farm animal protection organization, with hundreds of thousands of supporters. Farm Sanctuary remains solidly committed to our mission to end cruelty to farm animals and promote compassionate living through rescue, education and advocacy efforts.

The American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) has historically adopted many policies that support inhumane factory farming practices.
